There Will Come Soft Rains

              I have a huge interest in Old Time Radio shows - Dimension X and X minus One. One episode titled "There will come soft rains" introduced me to Sara Teasdale. She was an American Lyrical Poet. Her poems are very interesting. And I recommend anyone who reads this post to look for her poems on the internet.

Sara Teasdale circa~1913

There Will Come Soft Rains

There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground,
And swallows circling with their shimmering sound;

And frogs in the pool singing at night,
And wild plum trees in tremulous white;

Robins will wear their feathery fire,
Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire;

And not one will know of the war, not one
Will care at last when it is done.

Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree,
If mankind perished utterly;

And Spring herself when she woke at dawn
Would scarcely know that we were gone.

The Subject of this poem imagines nature reclaiming the earth after humanity has been wiped out by a war.

Isn't the poem just wonderful! This is one of my most favorite poems. For further reading about Sara Teasdale please visit http://www.poets.org/poet.php/prmPID/658
